School Improvement Council (SIC) Self-Nomination Form 2023-2024The SVHS School Improvement Council (SIC) is made up of an elected and appointed membership that includes students, parents, teachers, administrators and community representatives. This is mandated by state law and written in our bylaws which are available upon request. Each year, two parent/guardian representatives from each grade level serve on SIC.
For the 2023-2024 school year Parents/Guardians of Freshman and Junior students are invited to submit their name(s) for election.
We are requesting that NOMINATIONS be submitted ONLINE or by completing the Self-Nomination Form IN PERSON and dropping it in the SIC BALLOT BOX in the atrium area.
Completed self-nomination forms are due by September 5, 2023.ELECTIONS will take place on September 6, 2023. Parents will have the option to vote by submitting an ONLINE Election Form or by completing the Election Form IN PERSON and dropping it in the SIC BALLOT BOX in the atrium area on September 6, between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm.
The parents receiving the highest number of votes will become our newly elected SIC representatives. Announcement of the final membership of the 2023-2024 will be published in the Viking Update and on the school website. All regular SIC meetings are held in the school media center and are open to all parents/guardians, students and community members. Meeting dates and times are published at the start of the school year. For more information contact the front office at 803-699-3500.
SV Magnet Programs Volunteer with Adopt-a-Highway
On Saturday, August 19th, Discovery and Explorations students (and parents) spent the morning removing litter from Two Notch Road between Sparkleberry Lane and Clemson Road. The magnet programs initially adopted this stretch of road in August of 2021 in an effort to help keep our community roads clean. This past Saturday marked the beginning of our third year of service. Our magnet students and parents have truly made a noticeable difference on this stretch of road. A huge thank you to all who volunteered!!

PSAT REMINDERS
This Fall, all third year Juniors will have the opportunity to participate in the CollegeBoard PSAT/NMSQT on Thursday, October 26th. This Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a standardized test that is co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the United States. The test will measure the students knowledge and skill in reading, writing and math. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT may meet the requirements to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships.
As juniors, this assessment is optional and the cost will not be covered by the District or the State. The cost for the test is $18. Any student who may be interested in completing this assessment as a Junior must sign up for the opportunity. If you would like to take the NMSQT this Fall you must complete, the google form sent to you by Mr. Dundr by Monday, August 28th at 8am. Failure to do so will result in the inability to test. If you have any questions, please contact the School Testing Coordinator, Mr. Joshua Dundr.

National English Honors Society
Society of Odin at Spring Valley Application
You can be a charter member of the Society of Odin if you meet the following criteria:
- Juniors
- Must have completed at least 1 year of honors English
- Must be enrolled in either Honors or AP during junior year
- Must have an overall GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Must have a 3.5 combined GPA on a 4.0 scale in previous English classes
- Seniors
- Must have completed at least 2 years of honors or AP English
- Must be enrolled in honors, AP or dual enrollment during senior year
- Must have an overall GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Must have a 3.5 combined GPA on a 4.0 scale in previous English classes
All applicants must complete this online application and submit an unofficial transcript to verify grades and GPA.
Application
As members of the Society of Odin, you will be required to participate in at least one service project and two community events planned by the group. If you fulfill membership obligations, you will be eligible for a graduation cord. There is a one time fee of $35 for your membership
