Wednesday, May 269:30am – 11:30 am & 1:00pm – 3:00 pm

Graduating SENIOR Procedures for Turning in Chromebooks

*Underclassmen will keep Chromebooks through the summer and will bring them back when school starts.

Prior to turning your Chromebook in you must do the following:

  1. Sign out, remove users, shut down the Chromebook, and charge it COMPLETELY.
  2. Remove from case and gently wipe down Chromebook.

(DO NOT bring your case. We do not want it and won’t take it.)

  1. Find your charger and wrap it up appropriately. Wrap your charger like this.

NOTE: If you do not bring your charger, you will be charged $25.00. We will only take your charger WITH your Chromebook. You cannot turn in a Chromebook one day and a charger another day. We will not reverse fees later. Insurance does not cover lost chargers.

Wifi Hotspot

Are you a senior with a Wifi Hotspot? If so, you will need to turn it in with your Chromebook or a $50 charge will be added to your fees. Make sure that it has the cord and hotspot included. Missing parts will be added to fees accordingly.

Important Considerations

*If you still need your Chromebook to complete assignments like AP exams, credit recovery, etc., DO NOT turn your Chromebook in until they are finished. We can’t give a Chromebook back to you after you return it.

**If you do not turn in your Chromebook by the last designated day, you will  be charged $350.00. (If you need your Chromebook for summer school and want to turn it in later, we can work with you.)

Chromebook Repairs for Underclassmen

Attention SVHS Underclassmen: If you have damages or problems with your Chromebook and want to have it repaired prior to summer break, please bring it to the Tech Office in the Multipurpose Room before May 20th.
Tech Office Hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm. We are located outside the MPR on the second floor.

IN-PERSON/FACE-TO-FACE STUDENTS:

  • If you have a Chromebook that requires a repair and you are an in-person student, you may bring it to the Tech Office before class or at lunch on a day when you are at SHVS.
  • You may also bring it during class with a pass from a teacher.

VIRTUAL STUDENTS:

  • We ask that virtual students not miss live classes to visit the tech office.
  • If you are a virtual student, you may bring it between 8:30 am – 9 am Monday – Thursday or 12-3:30 on 1/2 day Fridays.
  • On asynchronous days you may bring it between 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.

*Please keep in mind that Chromebook insurance only covers your FIRST incident of damage. The fees on the chart below will apply to any school-issued Chromebook if you did not purchase or have already used the Chromebook insurance this school year

Richland 2 Repair and Replacement Cost Chart

To reduce the potential burden to students and parents, and to simplify the assessment of costs for schools, the cost schedule is generalized into major, minor, and cosmetic charges. Costs are based on our current models. It is possible that lower-cost options are available through third parties in some cases, but we can not accept substitutes or alternative repair proposals. Loss is not covered by insurance.

U.S. News & World Report Ranks Spring Valley in the Top 25 High Schools

This year the U.S. News & World Report ranks Spring Valley in the top 25 high schools out of the 243 high schools in the state of SC. Here is Spring Valley’s updated U.S. News profile page, with details about its rankings: https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/south-carolina/districts/richland-02/spring-valley-high-17710.

“Families can use the Best High Schools rankings to see how schools compare at the national, state and local level on factors like graduation rates and college readiness,” said Anita Narayan, managing editor of Education at U.S. News. “The rankings also provide insight into academic performance among underserved groups.”

The methodology focuses on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates. College readiness specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams. The data used in this edition is from the 2018-2019 academic school year, and therefore was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alongside the national rankings, U.S. News published rankings at the state, metro area and school district levels. Only metro areas and school districts with three or more high schools were included in these subrankings.

The Best High Schools rankings are available exclusively on USNews.com and include data on a variety of factors, such as enrollment, student diversity, participation in free and reduced-price lunch programs, graduation rates and the results of state assessments. U.S. News worked with RTI International, a global research firm, to implement the comprehensive ranking methodology. For more information, visit Facebook and Twitter using #BestHighSchools.

Dilley-Wilson Changemaker Scholarship

Dilley – Wilson Changemaker Scholarship

Scholarship Excerpt

This scholarship was created by a 2016 graduate, Taylor Ramsue, to honor two teachers that changed her life during her time at Spring Valley High School.

Mrs. Regina Dilley and Mr. Rodney Wilson are true examples of leaders who are passionate about teaching the next generation. They have both dedicated their lives to helping in and outside of the classroom, extending a helping hand without ever receiving recognition or expecting a thank you. Mrs. Dilley and Mr. Wilson helped to change the trajectory of Taylor’s life through their knowledge, kindness, and compassion. Every student should be able to experience teachers such as Mrs. Dilley and Mr. Wilson because they are the change that we all want to see. They continue to sow into the lives of their students daily while cultivating new ways to show their passion for teaching.

This scholarship is Taylor’s way of honoring two teachers that aided immensely in her growth and success. More importantly, to honor Mrs. Dilley and Mr. Wilson while they are still serving at Spring Valley. They both deserve their flowers while they can still smell them.
