Discovery Students Excel at the 2022 South Carolina Junior Academy of Science (SCJAS) Competition
Sixty-seven Discovery magnet students submitted research papers and presented at the 2022 South Carolina Junior Academy of Science (SCJAS) competition held at the University of South Carolina-Aiken on April 2 nd . Our students earned a total of 57 awards for their hard work (see the full list here). Congratulations to all of our Discovery students for their dedication and resulting accomplishments. Also, a big congratulations and thank you to these students’ research teachers, Ms. Heather Alexander, Mrs. Michelle Spigner, and Dr. Michelle Wyatt, who spent hours reading research papers, helping with experiments, and encouraging students to persevere!
Newest Key Club District Editor!
Congratulations to Junior student Nidhi Guntupalli for being elected as the newest Carolinas Key Club District Editor for the 2022-2023 school year! This is a tremendous accomplishment! We are all so proud of you!
SENIOR SUPERLATIVES
Seniors, it is that time!!! You can begin making your nominations for this year’s senior superlatives. First and Last names must be included on the form. The deadline for this is May 6th, so the results can be tallied. The top 2/3 will be added to a final voting form. Please email rshetlon@richland2.org with any questions.
POWDERPUFF FOOTBALL
The powderpuff game has been rescheduled for Thursday; April 28th from 5-6:30 at Ben Stern Soccer Field.
Red Cross Blood Drive
Attention parents & community members: SVHS will be hosting a blood drive on April 22nd in the AUX gym. The need for blood is greater than ever before. Spring Valley High School was a TOP contributor of blood in years past. Please come and support this worthy cause.

SENIOR SLIDESHOW
Submissions for the Senior Slideshow will be accepted starting April 1st. This is one of the highlights of the Senior Assembly. The cost for submission is $3 for one photo and $5 for three photos. Payment can be made to Ms. Bouchey in C-222. In the past seniors have turned in a series of pictures – baby, middle years, and a current picture – or some friend pics. No selfies! The deadline for submission is April 28th, but the sooner they are submitted, the better! **Please note that Ms. Bouchey will be out of town the week of April 18-22 so please plan accordingly. Sparkleberry Lane Construction
We wanted to let all of our families know that we will be experiencing some traffic issues on Sparkleberry Lane in front of the school over the next 2-3 months. Richland County will be making updates to the gas lines, storm drains, and adding sidewalks. Work crews will do their best to minimize the impact to arrival and departure times at school. If you are a car rider or student driver, we strongly encourage you to arrive early to school to make sure you are on time for class.

We will offer both on-campus and virtual tutoring options this year. Offering both platforms allows us to provide more options for students to get academic assistance after school. Please visit the SVHS Tutoring website for a complete schedule of the tutoring opportunities.
