SVHS 2024 BLACK HISTORY ASSEMBLY
Last Friday, the students of SVHS 2024 put on a dynamic Black History Assembly, commemorating the remarkable achievements of African Americans. The event featured captivating performances, including stepping, singing, and poetry readings. A standout moment was Mr. Henry Butler’s poignant recitation of Dr. King’s iconic “I Have A Dream” speech, stirring the audience with its powerful message of equality and justice. Four Discovery Students Named 2024 Junior Science & Humanities Symposium Winners
Twenty Spring Valley Discovery students submitted research papers to the 2024 Department of Defense-sponsored Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS), which took place on February 2, 2024. Students presented in preliminary, concurrent presentation sessions for the opportunity to move on to the Finalist round of presentations. Based on their outstanding oral presentations, Abdullah Amir (11), Shrihan Ganesh Babu (12), Abbey Lee (12), and Shivani Patel (12) were chosen to present in the afternoon Finalist session for the opportunity to attend the National JSHS, being held May 1-4, 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico (all expenses paid). In this round, Shrihan Ganesh Babu earned first place and a $1500 scholarship while Abdullah Amir finished in third place with a $500 scholarship. Shivani Patel and Abbey Lee were also chosen to attend the National JSHS. Congratulations to these students and their research teachers—Mrs. Heather Alexander, Mrs. Lindsey McKenzie, Dr. Michelle Spigner, and Dr. Michelle Wyatt.
Signing Day for SVHS Athletes
Congratulations to the following student-athletes and their families who are seeing a dream become reality. Four athletes seized the opportunity to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level. Classmates, teachers, coaches, staff, and family members filled the auditorium on Wednesday, February 29th at Spring Valley for their signing ceremony. We wish you continued success during your collegiate career.

Dublin Earns Back-to-Back State Wrestling Bronze Medals
Back-to-back Bronze Medalist Ivorie Dublin !!! After earning 2nd in the Upper State Qualifiers, on Day 1 of the South Carolina State Wrestling Championships she lost in the Semi-Finals to the eventual State Champion.
She bounced back on Day 2 by winning her final two matches in the consolation bracket to earn 3rd place! Despite getting 3rd last year, she had aspirations of being the State Champion this year. She has improved tremendously with her cardio, strength, and technique.
She truly is a student of the sport and will be getting right back to work this offseason to achieve her goal of becoming a State Champion next season. Congratulations Ivorie Dublin! #Win

SOAR Registration is Coming Soon!
Are you thinking about Summer Opportunities for Academic Readiness (SOAR)?
Secondary SOAR will be held June 10th-27th (Monday-Thursday) for middle and high school students. Parents will be able to register students for SOAR in the Parent Portal. SOAR registration will be open from March 4th until March 12th.
Locations will be combined this year to assist with staffing needs.
Bus transportation will be available if students need transportation.
If your student needs transportation to attend, please choose bus transportation when you register in the Parent Portal.
Middle school SOAR will be offered at three locations: Muller Road Middle, Kelly Mill Middle and Dent Middle School. (rising 6th graders-rising 8th graders)
MRM and BMS will be combined and hosted at MRM.
LMS, SPM and KMM will be combined and hosted at KMM.
DMS and ELW will be combined and hosted at DMS.
Instructional Focus: English-Language Arts, Math and AVID
Instructional Day: 8:45-1:15 PM
High school SOAR will be offered at R2i2. (rising freshmen)
All 5 high school students will be at one location.
Instructional focus: Algebra
Instructional Day: 9:30-1:45 PM
Registration begins March 4th and ends on March 12th.

Prom Tickets and Information
The prom is quickly approaching! Any Junior or Senior who has their fees paid is eligible to attend. Tickets can be purchased during lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Atrium. Seniors with all fees paid by March 28th can reserve their free ticket by filling out the Google form located at bit.ly/SrProm24. If a student wants to take a student who does not attend Spring Valley, they need to fill out the date form- bit.ly/svhdate24. We are voting for your favorite Social Studies and Science Teacher and Support Staff (Attendance, Health Room and SPED TAs). Voting will end on February 29th at 6:00 pm. The winner for each month will be selected and announced at the designated time. Please note that your nomination letter will be shared with the teacher and classified employee selected.

The Caroliance Youth Poetry Festival is a two-day convergence of middle
and high school students from North and South Carolina, focused on
celebrating the power of their voices through poetry and creativity.
