Congratulations Andrea Clutts !
Richland School District Two has announced five finalists for 2021-2022 District Teacher of the Year. The finalists and their schools are Andrea Clutts, Spring Valley High; Valente’ Gibson, Jackson Creek Elementary; Aimee Hinks, Pontiac Elementary; Mindy McNeal, Bookman Road Elementary; and Warren Wise, Kelly Mill Middle.
“These phenomenal teachers are pursuing the Pathway to Premier with a focus on our Core Values: Learning, Character, Community and Joy,” said Richland Two Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis. “They are delivering premier learning experiences for students, displaying premier character in what they do, demonstrating premier commitment to our community and they are creating conditions where joy resides.”
Andrea Clutts is a Technology and Learning Coach (TLC) and she teaches English at Spring Valley High School. Clutts is National Board Certified and holds a bachelor’s degree in English and master’s in teaching from the University of South Carolina. A 22-year veteran, she hopes her greatest contribution to teaching has been that she has instilled in her students the joy and passion of learning. She is not afraid to be “corny and silly” and entertain while teaching. For Clutts, the best part of teaching English is that she gets to help students deal with real-world issues while also teaching the required standards. “Students need both windows and mirrors in their learning. They need to see beyond themselves, but they also need to see themselves in what they are reading and learning. If they can do both, the lessons will stay with them and carry them into the future.” As the TLC she has been instrumental in keeping students and teachers operating successfully during the pandemic.
These finalists received surprise visits today from Superintendent Davis, their principals and other administrators who announced they are in the top five competing for the Richland Two District Teacher of the Year.
School Day Reminders
We have had a successful start to the year and would like to thank all of our families for making that possible. To assist us in making our school day run more efficient, we want to make our families aware of a few reminders:
- On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the school day starts at 8:40 am (Early Bird classes start at 7:30 am). On Wednesday the school day begins at 9:30 am (No Early Bird). Please make sure you are arriving on campus with plenty of time to get to class. Please review the bell schedule for the 2021-2022 school year for class times.
- Food drop offs and deliveries are NOT allowed during the school day. This includes delivery services, families, and seniors bringing food back on campus.
- There are no student sign outs after 3:15 pm, please arrive prior to that time to sign your child out.
COVID 19 Reporting Procedures for Students
If your child is Covid-19 positive or is a close contact of someone who is Covid-19 positive, please contact our school nurse Kimberly Talbott. Nurse Talbott’s contact information is below. Nurse Talbott will inform the family of the quarantine process and related time frame. The earlier we are made aware of this information, the better we will be able to support the student.
Nurse Talbott Contact Information:
(803) 699-3500 ext 69092 voicemail available after 4pm M-F
(803) 216-1071 please text after 4pm M-F
After Nurse Talbott has confirmed the details of the situation and quarantine time, your child’s attendance will be updated. Once a quarantine time is established, your child’s teachers will also be notified individually of the length of quarantine and date of return. Teachers will then designate specific assignments in Google Classroom to the quarantined student. Those assignments will be assigned under the Quarantine Assignment topic in Google Classroom. Our teachers are committed to making sure your child will not have lost instructional time while out on quarantine.
We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and continued communication throughout this process.
After School Tutoring begins August 30th
We would like to announce that our After School Tutoring program will begin on Monday, August 30th. We will offer both on campus and virtual tutoring options this year. Offering both platforms allows us to provide more options for students to get academic assistance after school. Please visit the SVHS Tutoring website for a complete schedule of the tutoring opportunities.
A special thank you goes out to the Spring Valley Education Foundation for funding this important initiative.
