October 12th Viking Update

NO LATE START FOR TESTING – October 13, 2021

There will be no Late Start on Wednesday, October 13th due to testing. Please make a note of it. Testing beings at 8:40 am. Late Start will resume on Wednesday, October 20th.

PSAT TESTING TOMORROW

We hope that everyone is having a great start to your week!!  This email will review information related to PSAT NMSQT testing that will occur for ALL 9th and 10th graders, as well as 11th graders who have registered for the test.  The PSAT NMSQT is a college readiness preparation assessment and will be administered tomorrow, Wednesday, October 13, 2021.  If you have any questions that we did not answer in this email, please feel free to reach out to let us know how we can help.

  • ALL FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORE STUDENTS ARE SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE PSAT NMSQT ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13th, NO SIGN UP NEEDED! 
  • Tomorrow there is NO Early Bird classes and there is NO Late Start, testing will begin at 8:40 am (buses will pick up students at there normal Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri time).

PSAT NMSQT Testing

We will be hosting PSAT NMSQT testing for ALL 9th and 10th graders, as well as 11th graders who have registered (confirmation email has been sent to those students) tomorrow, Wednesday, October 13, 2021.  Please read over the test day logistics below.  If you have any questions related to PSAT testing, please contact Dr. Paul Dobyns at pdobyns@richland2.org.

Freshman and Sophomores:  All students will be testing in standard time rooms, this includes students with an IEP or 504.  If you have any questions about this, please contact Paul Dobyns. 

Juniors: Students who registered for the PSAT NMSQT will be testing in standard time rooms, unless they have been approved for accommodations from the College Board. Only those Juniors who registered by October 6th will be testing tomorrow.

Non-testing Juniors and Seniors: Non-testing Juniors and Seniors will report to the main gym and commons area during testing.  Those students will participate in a variety of activities/presentations on college and career readiness.  Students will be in the non-tester area until they are dismissed for lunch.

PSAT Test Day Logistics:

Arrival:

  • Students will follow normal arrival procedures tomorrow, any student arriving prior to 8:20 am will report to the commons and main gym.
  • Students will be dismissed to testing rooms at 8:20 am.
  • Students arriving after 8:20 am will enter through the main atrium entrance.
  • Breakfast is available to all students free of charge, breakfast will be served in the commons.

Testing Information:

  • PLEASE BRING YOUR STUDENT ID!
  • Calculators will be provided for all students testing!
  • Students need to be in their assigned classroom no later than 8:40 am (assignments will be emailed this afternoon (October 12th) by 4:00 pm).

After Testing:

  • Once testing is complete, 9th and 10th grade students will be completing the Richland 2 Whole Child Survey- students please bring your CHROMEBOOK tomorrow!
  • Our goal is that testing and the survey will conclude no later than 1:00 pm, students will be dismissed to lunch once all testing is complete (free of charge to students).
  • After lunch, students will go to their afternoon classes, 5th – 8th periods, on a time modified schedule.  Exact class times will be emailed out once testing is complete.

PSAT NMSQT Student Study Guide We are excited to offer this opportunity for our students to participate in a college readiness preparation assessment.  Scores from the PSAT NMSQT will be returned to students digitally by January 2022, we will send information on how to access those scores at a later time. Thank you and good luck to all of our students tomorrow! Have a great day and remember, we are…

The Science National Honors Society is sponsoring a PINK OUT Friday, October 15th with all proceeds going to the Prisma Health Walk for Life. Who is your favorite Teacher & Support Staff Employee of The Month? Please take a moment to fill out the October nomination form that was emailed to students and parents. This October we are voting for your favorite English Teacher and Support Staff (Guidance). Voting will end on October 22nd at 4:00 pm. The winner for each month will be selected and announced at the designated time. Please note that your nomination letter will be shared with the teacher and classified employee selected.

Key Club Anti-Bullying Month Activities!

Throughout October, Key Club will be hosting several activities to encourage students of Spring Valley to stand up against bullying and promote kindness! This week, we will be posting uplifting post-it notes on lockers before the PSAT this Wednesday! Join Key Club by encouraging your peers to help us stand against bullying by being kind!

The 2021 Yearbooks are Here!!!

The yearbooks are finally here! Extra copies are on sale through Parent Portal. Simply pay online and bring an electronic or paper copy of your receipt by D221 to pick up your book. Students who have preordered a copy have been sent an email and don’t need a receipt. Books are available before and after school each day. Help us spread the word to last year’s seniors…we need your help letting members of the Class of 2021 know that their senior book is finally back from the publishers.
