On Tuesday, November 19th, family members, classmates, teachers, coaches, and staff gathered to witness an unforgettable moment. Five talented student-athletes took a major step forward in their journey, signing their commitment to further both their academic and athletic pursuits at the collegiate level. Congratulations to these exceptional individuals and their families, who are now seeing their dreams come to fruition. As you embark on this new chapter, we wish you continued success and fulfillment in your collegiate careers.

SVHS JROTC SUPPORTS FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES
SVHS JROTC cadets dedicated their morning to volunteering at the WISTV-10 studios, actively supporting the Families Helping Families initiative. For three hours, the cadets managed the phone lines, assisting callers in adopting families to buy Christmas gifts. This year, the program aims to support over 4,000 families within the next three weeks.
This act of service is part of 30 different projects that the cadets have engaged in throughout the academic year. They have ambitiously set a target of completing 2,500 service hours by April and are making significant progress towards achieving it.
SVHS AT 51st Clemson University Declamation
At the 51st Clemson University Declamation regional competition, we were proud to have students Gisele Atim, Debasmita Mishra, and Mamathi Murugesan representing Spring Valley High School. These talented students showcased their skills by reciting two assigned poems from memory in a chosen World Language. We extend our congratulations to Gisele Atim for her outstanding achievement in earning a silver medal in the Spanish 3A section. Here we see Mr. Temoney presenting the medal, accompanied by her Spanish teacher, Mrs. Hernandez, on college spirit day.
PEP: SUPPORTING STUDENT LEARNING & ENGAGEMENT THROUGH AVID
On Wednesday, November 20th, SV teachers took part in the AVID Mini-Conference titled “Supporting Student Learning & Engagement through AVID”. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, plays a vital role in enhancing student learning and engagement by offering a robust framework.
The program empowers students by encouraging them to take charge of their academic success through strategies such as effective note-taking, inquiry-based learning, and peer tutoring. During PEP, teachers had the opportunity to engage in eight unique 15-minute sessions covering a variety of topics.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Spring Valley’s own Mrs. McKenzie, Dr. Platt, Dr. Spigner, Mrs. Glenn, Mrs. Dissinger, Mr. Hale, Mrs. Mariano, Ms. Edwards, Ms. Watson, Ms. Peele, Mr. Bozard, and Richland 2 AVID Coordinator, Mr. Jeffery McKicken, for presenting the sessions.

DECA REGIONALS
Inaya Siddique and Olivia Zimmer have achieved remarkable success at the DECA Regionals held on November 12th! Inaya secured 3rd place in the Restaurant and Food Service Management event, while Olivia excelled in the Human Resources Management event, placing in the top 6. Both of these talented newcomers will advance to the State level competition in February.
For those students with an interest in Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Hospitality & Tourism, Marketing, or Personal Finance, joining DECA is a great opportunity. Please reach out to Mrs. Failla for further details.
Congratulations Viking Cheer !
The Viking cheerleaders and Coach Cori Zimmerman have achieved an impressive milestone by securing their spot in the 5A Div 1 State Championship. Their dedication and hard work paid off as the varsity cheer team placed 7th among all teams in the 5A Division 1, earning them the opportunity to compete at the SCHSL State Cheer meet. Best of luck to them as they prepare for the big event on Saturday, November 23rd!
SVHS COLLEGE TOUR: NEWBERRY COLLEGE
The SVHS CIC Department recently organized a highly enriching college tour for a select group of sophomores and juniors, which provided them with the invaluable opportunity to visit and explore Newberry College. This excursion was designed to give students a comprehensive insight into the collegiate environment, allowing them to experience firsthand what life at a higher education institution entails. Such initiatives are crucial in assisting young learners in making informed decisions about their future academic and career paths.
Newberry College was incredibly gracious in hosting our students, offering them a glimpse into the diverse academic programs and vibrant campus life that the college has to offer. This exposure not only broadened their understanding of college dynamics but also inspired them to envision their own potential paths in higher education.
We are immensely grateful to Newberry College for this generous opportunity, which has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on our students, encouraging them to aspire towards higher learning and personal growth.
PROJECT PLANT CLUB
Project Planet Club, formerly known as Adopt-A-Stream, conducted this past Saturday a planting bushes activity on the school grounds. There were 9 bushes planted behind the tennis courts to get some screening from the road. That would make a total of 20 bushes our club planted in the past 3 years. Funding was provided through a grant obtained from the SV Education Foundation.

Army/STEM Experience
Spring Valley High School is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for our students. On Tuesday, November 19th, we hosted a unique STEM simulation exhibit offered by the U.S. Army. This event aims to introduce our students to the myriad of STEM-related job opportunities available within the Army. Students had the chance to experience flight and parachute simulations, engage in IT and Social Media discussions, and explore Sand Reality Tables, among other activities.

We are raising money as a part of the Make-A-Wish committee of Winter Days, Spring Valley High School’s annual service project during the holidays, and we use the money we raise to grant a wish to a specific child each year with a critical illness. Student Parking
Students will no longer be allowed to utilize the parking lot in front of the gym upon arrival to school. This parking lot is reserved for Staff and Visitors only in the mornings. Students will begin receiving tickets and parking fines when parking in this area. All students are required to have the appropriate parking pass to utilize any campus parking and must park in the Upper/Junior Lot unless they have been assigned a designated Senior Parking Spot elsewhere on campus. Upon returning from lunch, or for after school activities, students may use the Gym Lot. Again, students may not use the Gym Lot any earlier than the beginning of 5th period.
