School Improvement Council (SIC) Self-Nomination Form 2021-2022

School Improvement Council (SIC) Self-Nomination Form 2021-2022The SVHS School Improvement Council (SIC) is made up of an elected and appointed membership that includes students, parents, teachers, administrators and community representatives. This is mandated by state law and written in our bylaws which are available upon request. Each year, two parent/guardian representatives from each grade level serve on SIC.

For the 2021-2022 school year Parents/Guardians of Freshman and Sophomore students are invited to submit their name(s) for election. In effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, we are requesting that

NOMINATIONS be submitted ONLINE or by completing the Self-Nomination Form IN PERSON and dropping it in the SIC BALLOT BOX in the atrium area.

The safety of our families/students/faculty & staff is our top priority. Completed self-nomination forms are due by September 7, 2021.

ELECTIONS will take place on September 9, 2021. Parents will have the option to vote by submitting an ONLINE Election Form or by completing the Election Form IN PERSON and dropping it in the SIC BALLOT BOX in the atrium area on September 9, 2021, between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm. The parents receiving the highest number of votes will become our newly elected SIC representatives. Announcement of the final membership of the 2021-2022 will be published in the Viking Update and on the school website. All regular SIC meetings are held in the school media center and are open to all parents/guardians, students and community members.  Meeting dates and times are published at the start of the school year. Important Bell Schedule Changes (next week!)

Starting Monday, August 23rd, we will begin our regular bell schedule for the 2021-2022 school year.  New this year, we are implementing an Individual Learning Time (ILT) for each class period.  The ILT period will be used by teachers to provide additional support and supplemental instruction for their classes.

To accommodate the ILT period for each class, we will be utilizing a two-week rotating schedule.  Below are the two schedules, Green Week and Gold Week.  Next week will be a Green Week, students will follow the daily bell schedule as outlined below.  Wednesdays will still be Late Start, with classes starting at 9:30 am and no ILT period.  We will make sure students are aware of the daily schedule and the appropriate bell times for that day.

MAP Testing for all 9th Graders Next Week

We will be conducting MAP Testing for all 9th grade students during the week of August 23-27th.  Students will be taking the MAP Growth Reading and Math assessments.  Dr. Dobyns will be sending out additional communication to 9th grade students and parents about testing dates and times.
