Spring Valley High School Earns Bronze Recognition on 2025 AP School Honor Roll 🎓💚💛

Spring Valley High School is proud to announce its designation as a Bronze-level school on the College Board’s 2025 AP School Honor Roll. This recognition highlights Spring Valley’s continued success in expanding access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses and improving student outcomes in rigorous, college-level academics.

Earning the Bronze distinction reflects meaningful achievement in key performance areas, including a strong percentage of seniors who have taken at least one AP exam and a notable number of students earning a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP exam. These outcomes demonstrate Spring Valley’s commitment to preparing students for college and career readiness.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools nationwide that are effectively using AP programs to help more students succeed in college. Designations are based on criteria such as:

  • The percentage of graduating students who have taken at least one AP exam
  • The percentage of students who earned a score of 3 or higher
  • The percentage of students who have taken five or more AP exams

This achievement reflects the dedication of Spring Valley’s students, teachers, counselors, and administrators who work together to support academic excellence and opportunity for all.

Congratulations to our Viking community on this outstanding accomplishment! 💚💛

Spring Valley Student Leaders Present Winter Days Impact to Richland Two Board 💚💛

Spring Valley Student Body President and Winter Days Chair, Imani Howard, along with Student Body Officer and Winter Days Junior Chair, Karson Smith, proudly represented Spring Valley High School at a recent Richland School District Two Board Meeting, accompanied by Mrs. Olisa Ashford, Student Activities Director.

During the presentation, Imani and Karson shared the powerful story and impact of Winter Days, Spring Valley’s largest school-wide community service initiative, which has been a cherished, student-led tradition since 1984. They emphasized that Winter Days is more than an event—it is a legacy of leadership, compassion, and service that unites students, staff, families, and community partners around a shared mission to serve others with heart.

This year’s theme, “A Nutcracker Christmas,” symbolized resilience, courage, and standing strong together for something greater than oneself. The students highlighted how Winter Days provided a meaningful reminder that even during challenging times, students can lead with empathy and create real, lasting change.

Karson shared how essential strong leadership and support have been to the success of Winter Days, noting the encouragement and trust from Principal Jeff Temoney, whose belief in student voice and leadership empowers students to turn ideas into action. Guided by Richland Two’s mission and core values of belonging, learning, continuous improvement, and joy, Spring Valley students didn’t just meet their goals this year—they exceeded them.

Winter Days 2025 Impact Highlights:

  • Adopted 16 families, impacting 39 individuals through Families Helping Families
  • Collected 1,003 children’s books for Richland Two’s Ready to Read program
  • Raised $8,470 for Make-A-Wish South Carolina
  • Donated 3,050+ toiletry items to Transitions Homeless Shelter
  • Collected 492 new toys for Toys for Tots of Columbia
  • Gathered 41,048 servings of canned and non-perishable food items for families across Richland Two and the Midlands, including donations to Harvest Hope Food Bank and the Salvation Army

In addition, Spring Valley’s School and Community Outreach Committee mentored student leaders at several elementary schools, helping them organize their own mini service drives and teaching the importance of servant leadership.

Imani closed by reminding the board that Winter Days represents learning beyond the classroom—learning rooted in leadership, empathy, and service. She encouraged everyone to remember that giving back isn’t about how much you have, but about choosing to care, and that even the smallest acts of service can make a lasting difference.

Spring Valley is incredibly proud of Imani Howard, Karson Smith, and all of our student leaders whose dedication, compassion, and commitment to service continue to inspire our school and community. Their presentation was a true reflection of Viking leadership in action. 💚💛
