Spring Valley High School is proud to announce that six of our students have been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These exceptional Vikings have demonstrated outstanding academic ability and strong potential for success in rigorous college studies.

- Ainsley Ropel

They are among approximately 16,000 students nationwide—less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors—who earned this recognition based on their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
About 95 percent of semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist stage, and nearly half of those finalists will go on to earn a National Merit Scholarship, gaining the title of Merit Scholar®. Scholarships awarded include:
- 2,500 National Merit® $2500 Scholarships (awarded on a state-representational basis)
- 950 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards (sponsored by companies and organizations across the country)
- 3,800 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards (offered by more than 160 colleges and universities to students who enroll at their institutions)
