NO LATE START FOR TESTING – October 12, 2022

PSAT TESTING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12TH

This information is related to PSAT NMSQT testing that will occur for ALL 9th and 10th graders, as well as 11th graders who have registered for the test. The PSAT NMSQT is a college readiness preparation assessment and will be administered tomorrow, Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
- ALL FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORE STUDENTS ARE SCHEDULED TO TAKE THE PSAT NMSQT ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12th, NO SIGN UP NEEDED!
- There is NO Early Bird classes and there is NO Late Start, testing will begin at 8:50 am (buses will pick up students at there normal Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri time).
Freshman and Sophomores: All students will be testing in standard time rooms, this includes students with an IEP or 504.
Juniors: Students who registered for the PSAT NMSQT will be testing in standard time rooms, unless they have been approved for accommodations from the College Board. Only those Juniors who registered by September 30th will be testing tomorrow.
Non-testing Juniors and Seniors: Non-testing Juniors and Seniors will report to the main gym and commons area during testing. Those students will participate in a variety of activities/presentations on college and career readiness. Students will be in the non-tester area until they are dismissed for lunch.
Viking Invitational

Spring Valley cheer JV and Varsity took the mat this weekend at the Silver Fox Invitational hosted by Dutch Fork. Both teams finished 5th place in their divisions.
We will be hosting our Viking Invitational this Wednesday, October 12th! We will be hosting over 20 teams and defending our house! Come join us for a Night with the Vikes! Doors open at 5:30pm! Visit our food trucks and a 360 photo booth!

Repurpose & Upcycle Club

Express your creativity and join the Upcycling and Repurposing Club. Reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills and oceans by finding ways to repurpose what we already have.
We brainstorm ways to create artistic and useful products from discarded or unwanted materials. We will have demonstrations and workshops where members will learn a new skill or create something.
Members can share their ideas and showcase their talents.
Through Individual and group projects, members will be encouraged to take creative risks and cultivate imagination, persistence and collaboration.

The South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is entering its 24th year of offering the state’s brightest and best students up to $24,000 over four years to become South Carolina educators.
Here’s what you need to know about the Teaching Fellows Program.
Includes enrichment programs, professional development, and leadership opportunities Supplies up to a $6,000 fellowship annually for four years (as long as the student is in the process of completing a degree leading to initial teacher certification and meets the criteria to continue in the Program) Requires participants to agree to teach/serve in an approved educational capacity in a South Carolina public school one year for each year funding is received and sign a Promissory Note along with a surety.
Teaching Fellows must attend one of the eleven Teaching Fellows Institutions. These include Anderson University, Charleston Southern University, Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Lander University, USC Aiken, USC Columbia, USC Upstate, and Winthrop University.

Women’s Soccer HoneyBaked Ham Fundraiser

As you begin to make plans for your family gatherings during the holiday season, please consider purchasing a gift card to use towards your purchase of a HoneyBaked Ham or some of their other fabulous sides. **POSTPONED** Storage Clean Out Day

Due to the incoming weather, set storage clean out day has been postponed until October 15th. Anybody interested should come to behind the auditorium/ side of the school close to the senior lot near the tennis courts at 10am on Saturday, October 15th. Service Hours will still be given!!!
SAT BOOT CAMP

We will once again be partnering with Tutors Across America to provide a discounted SAT Boot Camp over the dates of October 14th-16th. This camp will help students to prepare for the SAT exams.

SAT/ACT PREP WORKSHOP

Spring Valley High School will be offering a Prep workshop on Tuesday, October 25th.
The SAT/ACT preparation course through ATTEST LLC will take place in person. The session is from 8:45 a.m -1:30pm. The concepts covered are Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre- Calculus, Grammatical Writing, Evidence Based Reading & Writing. Students will have breaks throughout and a lunch break. Students attending the session will receive an excused absence for their participation. The deadline to sign up is October 18th. Class is limited to the first (75) to sign up.For 11th and 12th Graders Only.
