Congratulations to Blue Stiffler State Wrestling Champion!

SPRING VALLEY HAS FIRST FRESHMAN STATE WRESTLING CHAMPION
COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the first time in school history, Spring Valley High School has its first freshman State Wrestling Champion. This past weekend, Blue Stiffler won the 5A state title for the 138 pound weight class. Stiffler finished with an overall 43-1 record and is the first Spring Valley freshman to win a state wrestling title. He’s undefeated against wrestlers in South Carolina.
Spring Valley Wrestling Coach Brian Hedgecock says Stiffler defeated defending state champion Brayton Killiri from Summerville High School in the finals. “Blue is a great wrestler that works hard at improving daily. He has competed in and placed in many national-level tournaments over the years. The wrestling team is hoping this great accomplishment will encourage more student-athletes to join the team,” said Hedgecock.
Stiffler hopes this is just the beginning of his success. “My goal is to be South Carolina’s next 4x State Champion,” Stiffler said.
Stiffler is the youngest of six children. He has four older brothers who also help train and coach him. Stiffler honored his brothers at the State Tournament by wearing singlets and wrestling shoes worn or donated by them. He gave his mother Denise, who teaches mathematics at Spring Valley, the best birthday present ever by winning the State Championship on her birthday.

Sparkleberry Lane Construction

We wanted to let all of our families know that we will be experiencing some traffic issues on Sparkleberry Lane in front of the school over the next 2-3 months. Richland County will be making updates to the gas lines, storm drains, and adding sidewalks. Work crews will do their best to minimize the impact to arrival and departure times at school. If you are a car rider or student driver, we strongly encourage you to arrive early to school to make sure you are on time for class.
After School Tutoring

We will offer both on-campus and virtual tutoring options this year. Offering both platforms allows us to provide more options for students to get academic assistance after school. Please visit the SVHS Tutoring website for a complete schedule of the tutoring opportunities.
A special thank you goes out to the Spring Valley Education Foundation for funding this important initiative.
