School Improvement Council (SIC) Self-Nomination Form 2021-2022

School Improvement Council (SIC) Self-Nomination Form 2021-2022The SVHS School Improvement Council (SIC) is made up of an elected and appointed membership that includes students, parents, teachers, administrators and community representatives. This is mandated by state law and written in our bylaws which are available upon request. Each year, two parent/guardian representatives from each grade level serve on SIC.

For the 2021-2022 school year Parents/Guardians of Freshman and Sophomore students are invited to submit their name(s) for election. In effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, we are requesting that

NOMINATIONS be submitted ONLINE or by completing the Self-Nomination Form IN PERSON and dropping it in the SIC BALLOT BOX in the atrium area.

The safety of our families/students/faculty & staff is our top priority. Completed self-nomination forms are due by September 7, 2021.

ELECTIONS will take place on September 9, 2021. Parents will have the option to vote by submitting an ONLINE Election Form or by completing the Election Form IN PERSON and dropping it in the SIC BALLOT BOX in the atrium area on September 9, 2021, between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm. The parents receiving the highest number of votes will become our newly elected SIC representatives. Announcement of the final membership of the 2021-2022 will be published in the Viking Update and on the school website. All regular SIC meetings are held in the school media center and are open to all parents/guardians, students and community members.  Meeting dates and times are published at the start of the school year. For more information contact the front office at 803-699-3500.

School Day Reminders

We have had a successful start to the year and would like to thank all of our families for making that possible.  To assist us in making our school day run more efficient, we want to make our families aware of a few reminders:

  • On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the school day starts at 8:40 am (Early Bird classes start at 7:30 am).  On Wednesday the school day begins at 9:30 am (No Early Bird).  Please make sure you are arriving on campus with plenty of time to get to class. Please review the bell schedule for the 2021-2022 school year for class times.
  • Food drop offs and deliveries are NOT allowed during the school day.  This includes delivery services, families, and seniors bringing food back on campus.
  • There are no student sign outs after 3:15 pm, please arrive prior to that time to sign your child out.

COVID 19 Reporting Procedures for Students

If your child is Covid-19 positive or is a close contact of someone who is Covid-19 positive, please contact our school nurse Kimberly Talbott.  Nurse Talbott’s contact information is below.  Nurse Talbott will inform the family of the quarantine process and related time frame.  The earlier we are made aware of this information, the better we will be able to support the student.

Nurse Talbott Contact Information:
(803) 699-3500 ext 69092 voicemail available after 4pm M-F
(803) 216-1071 please text after 4pm M-F
ktalbott@richland2.org

After Nurse Talbott has confirmed the details of the situation and quarantine time, your child’s attendance will be updated.  Once a quarantine time is established, your child’s teachers will also be notified individually of the length of quarantine and date of return.  Teachers will then designate specific assignments in Google Classroom to the quarantined student.  Those assignments will be assigned under the Quarantine Assignment topic in Google Classroom.  Our teachers are committed to making sure your child will not have lost instructional time while out on quarantine.

We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and continued communication throughout this process.

After School Tutoring begins August 30th

We would like to announce that our After School Tutoring program will begin on Monday, August 30th.  We will offer both on campus and virtual tutoring options this year.  Offering both platforms allows us to provide more options for students to get academic assistance after school.  Please visit the SVHS Tutoring website for a complete schedule of the tutoring opportunities.

A special thank you goes out to the Spring Valley Education Foundation for funding this important initiative.
