


Spring Valley Discovery Senior Named a Top Scientist in the 2026 Regeneron Science Talent Search 🔬💚💛

We are proud to announce that Spring Valley Discovery senior Ella Jennings Baker has been named a 2026 Regeneron Science Talent Search (Regeneron STS) Scholar.
The Regeneron Science Talent Search, a program of the Society for Science, is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious pre-college science and math competition for high school seniors. Each year, 300 scholars are selected for their exceptional promise in STEM through original, independent research as well as leadership, creativity, academic commitment, and community involvement.
As part of this honor, each scholar receives a $2,000 award, and each scholar’s school is also awarded $2,000 in recognition of their achievement and support. The 2026 scholars represent 200 high schools and homeschools across 33 states, Washington, D.C., and several international locations, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Switzerland.

Forward Progression Mentor Apprenticeship Program, Inc.” is gearing up for the next term of our Paid Apprenticeship Experience. We have our next REQUIRED Pre-Requisite Training on MONDAY, JANUARY 12th, 2026, from 6:00-7:30pm.
Students will have the opportunity to (1) take part in a positive community of professionals, (2) get much needed workforce preparation and character development training and (3) get hands-on work experience possibly within your career field interest, and the (4) opportunity to earn a 120 Work Based Learning Hours towards graduation, while (5) Qualifying for a Cash Stipend Reward.
FPMAP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS;
1. Students must be between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age.
2. Grade Point Average (GPA) 2.0 or higher.
3. Successful Local Background Check for 18-year-olds.
4. Completion of two (2) Prerequisite workforce-preparation training sessions.
5. Successful Interview with Partnering Manager/Supervisor/ Business Owner.
6. FPMAP is placing the top 15x students for their Intern Session.
* WINTER Apprenticeship Session (January 19 – March 29, 2026).
* WORKSHOPS ARE HELD ON MONDAYS from 6:00-7:30pm at “WNM Essentials” (#1055 Sparkleberry Lane Ext Ste M, Columbia, SC 29223)
* If selected, Apprentice Students commit to a 12-hour set schedule over a 10-week term.

The WORD Writing Club will host an Open Mic on Wednesday, January 29th, during lunch in the Library!
An Open Mic is a celebration of the written word—where students and staff can share poetry, excerpts from stories, and even songs. Whether you want to perform or simply listen and support others, all students and faculty are welcome.

- Only Seniors may leave for Lunch
- Seniors must have a Senior ID (navy blue with number 12) to leave campus. No ID, No Senior Privilege that day
- Seniors returning late from lunch may have Senior Privileges revoked
- The gym parking lot is not for student parking during the school day. Cars will be ticketed
- No lunch deliveries for any students

We will offer both on-campus and virtual tutoring options. Offering both platforms allows us to provide more options for students to get academic assistance after school. Please visit the SVHS Tutoring website for a complete schedule of tutoring opportunities.
