Viking Update December 5th

FALL EXAM SCHEDULE

For students enrolled in Algebra 1, Biology, English 2, and US History and Constitution for 1st Semester, students will be completing their State End Of Course Examination (EOC). The EOC for these classes is a State mandated, comprehensive assessment that is worth 20% of the total grade. Due to the nature of this assessment there are a number of rules and procedures that must be followed by both staff and students. Please be aware of the following information for all EOC Exams:

  • It is imperative that your student is present and on time for their designated Exam Date. The Exam Schedule can be found on the frontpage of our website. Students will not be able to be signed out of school during these assessments. Failure to complete the exam will result in a 0% on the assessment and a loss of 20% of the student’s overall grade.
  •  Students will need a fully charged, school issued Chromebook to take the assessment. Please ensure your student charges their device the night before.
  • All technology, besides a school issued Chromebook, is strictly prohibited for the entire duration of testing. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, headphones, smart watches, etc. Failure to completely power off these devices, store them in a bag or purse, and place them in a designated area of the room provided by teachers will lead to discipline consequences, administrative search of devices/phones, and potential 0% score on the exam.
  • As with any test, a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast is important leading up to test day.

EOC Testing will begin with our English 2 Writing portion on Thursday, December 5th. The conclusion of the English 2 EOC, as well as all other EOCs, will follow the Semester 1 Exam Schedule. If you have any questions regarding the EOC, please contact the School Testing Coordinator, Mr. Joshua Dundr.

Join Us for A Nutcracker Spirit Week! ❄️🎄💚💛

🎄 CALLING ALL VIKINGS! 🎄

Next week is A Nutcracker Spirit Week!

This beloved Spring Valley tradition is always filled with excitement, community spirit, and festive energy as we gear up for Winter Days and the holiday break. We can’t wait to see everyone join in on the fun and show off their Viking pride each day!

#NutcrackerSpiritWeek #WinterDays #VikingPride #TheValley

Winter Days has been a cherished Spring Valley tradition since 1984, and it remains the largest annual school-wide community outreach initiative at Spring Valley High School. This beloved project brings together students, staff, and families in support of local agencies and schools in need.

Each year, our committee chairs connect with community partners to identify needs, set collection goals, and coordinate a wide range of charitable drives. Their leadership—paired with the generous spirit of our Viking community—helps us make a lasting impact on families and organizations throughout the Midlands.

This year, as many families continue to face challenges meeting basic needs, your support matters more than ever. Please see the attached flyers for suggested donation items. Every contribution, big or small, helps us spread hope and joy this holiday season.

Spring Valley will also serve as a community drop-off location for non-perishable food items. All donations will be sorted, packaged, and promptly delivered to local food pantries and outreach agencies.

If you know Spring Valley students or families in immediate need, please contact our School Social Worker, Mrs. Morgan Daniels, at modaniels@richland2.org.

NHS Volunteers Make an Impact at the Woodlands Community! ✨💚💛

This weekend, National Honor Society (NHS) members rolled up their sleeves and devoted their time to serving the Woodlands Community—and they had fun doing it!

Students worked hard to beautify the outdoor spaces by:
🌿 Sprucing up landscaping
🗑️ Removing litter
🚧 Washing road signs

Their efforts helped enhance the neighborhood’s green spaces, making a visible difference that residents truly appreciated. This service event not only improved the environment but also strengthened the relationship between Spring Valley and the surrounding community.

A huge thank you to our amazing NHS members for their dedication to service, leadership, and making The Valley proud! ✨✨

CTE Advisory Meeting: Preparing Vikings for Success Beyond High School 💼✨

On December 3, 2025, the Spring Valley CTE Department met with industry professionals to explore how we can continue strengthening pathways that prepare our students for success after high school. This collaborative conversation allowed our teachers and partners to discuss workforce needs, emerging skills, and real-world expectations across multiple industries.

A heartfelt thank you to the following advisors who joined us and generously shared their expertise:

  • Sarah Hopkins — MUSC Health
  • Kenberly Green — Michelin
  • Travis Dalton — Molinaroli College of Engineering & Computing, University of South Carolina
  • Chef Jeff Jeffcoat — Richland Library
  • Larry Smalls — Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union
  • Hugh Macpherson — Snap-on Industrial

Their input helps us align our programs with industry standards, create meaningful learning experiences, and ensure our Vikings graduate future-ready.

We appreciate your time, partnership, and commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders and innovators! 💚💛
