Anne Frank Traveling Exhibit at Spring Valley High School

From March 19th to 28th, Spring Valley High School had the unique opportunity to host the Anne Frank Traveling Exhibit. This remarkable event was open to the entire community, allowing both members of the public and school teachers to bring their classes to engage with this profound piece of history.

A Student-Led Experience

What made this exhibit particularly special was its production and presentation by our very own student body. Our students took on the roles of docents, guiding visitors through the exhibit and sharing the poignant story of Anne Frank. This approach offered a peer-to-peer learning experience, fostering a deeper understanding and connection among students. By having the story presented by fellow students, the aim was to nurture empathy, compassion, and a greater awareness of the dangers of hatred.

Training for Future Educators

In preparation for this role, our students attended training workshops, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to convey the exhibit’s narratives effectively. This training not only enhanced their understanding of the Holocaust and its historical context but also honed their public speaking and interpersonal skills.

A Unique Educational Opportunity

Columbia, South Carolina, holds a special place in the global effort to remember the Holocaust. It is home to the only permanent Anne Frank Museum outside of Amsterdam, located at the University of South Carolina. This places our community at a unique crossroads for Holocaust education and awareness. We are incredibly thankful to be part of this effort, offering our students and the broader community an invaluable educational experience.

The Anne Frank Traveling Exhibit provided an unparalleled opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in history, engage in meaningful dialogue, and develop a deeper understanding of the past’s impact on the present and future.

10th Annual Discovery/Explorations Poster Session

Spring Valley High School’s 10th Annual Discovery/Explorations Poster Session is a unique opportunity for our students, faculty, and staff to engage with the brilliant minds of our Discovery and Explorations students. This event showcases the innovative research and internships undertaken by our talented students.

During the poster session, students were stationed beside their poster boards, ready to engage with attendees. They presented their work, discussed their findings, and shared insights gained from their research and internship experiences. This interactive format allowed for a dynamic exchange of ideas and provided an opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and dedication.
