February 11th Viking Update

NO STUDENT DELIVERIES ON VALENTINES DAY

We are excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Monday.  We want to remind all of our families that we do not accept or will allow any deliveries (this includes any food, balloons, or gifts) at any point during the school day.  This includes before school and at lunch.  We also ask our students that any Valentine’s Day gift exchange occur outside of school time.  Thank you for helping us minimize the disruption to our school day.

VIRTUAL SPING OPEN HOUSE

Sparkleberry Lane Construction

We wanted to let all of our families know that we will be experiencing some traffic issues on Sparkleberry Lane in front of the school over the next 2-3 months.  Richland County will be making updates to the gas lines, storm drains, and adding sidewalks.  Work crews will do their best to minimize the impact to arrival and departure times at school.  If you are a car rider or student driver, we strongly encourage you to arrive early to school to make sure you are on time for class.

College of Charleston President Dr. Hsu Visits the Valley

Spring Valley High School had the honor and privilege of hosting a meet a greet with College of Charleston’s President Dr. Andrew Hsu. Dr. Hsu and several of his staff members visited with our early acceptance students to engage them in conversations that included campus life, academic majors, and the city of Charleston. It was truly an honor and pleasure to have Dr. Hsu and his staff visit Spring Valley High School.

Spring Valley High School was named as a winner in the American Red Cross Pump It Up  Challenge, which recognizes high-achieving blood drive sponsors that have grown the number of blood donations  collected in their community to help hospital patients in need.

Committed to helping save lives, Spring Valley has helped collect 156 Red Cross blood donations for patients in need  over the past 6 months. Spring Valley has already achieved the honored distinction of the Premier Blood Partner with  the Red Cross.

“Giving blood is a simple act of generosity that can truly make a lifesaving difference. Last year, we received an  outpouring of support from the community at our blood drives, and our goal is to make it a success again this year for  patients who are counting on us,” said Andrea Clutts, Spring Valley’s blood drive coordinator. “We are proud to  partner with the Red Cross as a Premier Blood Partner and help it fulfill its critical mission.”

The need for blood is constant. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, according to  the Red Cross.

Spring Valley’s next blood drive will be on April 22, 2022.

Members of the the Spring Valley community are invited to make a difference with by donating blood at an upcoming  American Red Cross drive. The Spring Valley blood drive will be held April 22nd from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm in the Aux  Gym.

Please look for more information about the drive and info on how to sign up as the date gets closer.

COVID UPDATE

Richland Two sent out an update for employees and parents with information on the district’s updated isolation and quarantine procedures for schools released by S.C. DHEC on December 31, 2021.  We encourage you to thoroughly review this information by looking at the Covid-19 Update Newsletter. One important point to note in this update is related to students having to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact.  The below statement from this update outlines that if you are 16 years of age or older, you must have the initial vaccination series and the booster to avoid having to quarantine if considered a close contact.  Please review the Covid-19 Update Newsletter for complete details about this and other changes.

  • To avoid quarantine when identified as a close contact you must have received the vaccine doses you’re eligible for (completed initial vaccination series and booster for ages 16 and up, or completed initial vaccination series for ages 5-15).

Questions about your child being Covid-19 positive or is a close contact of someone who is Covid-19 positive, please contact our school nurse Elisabeth Walter at ewalter@richland2.org or by calling the Health Room at ext. 69092
